  1. awesome

Posted by Jon on 13th Dec 2020

I brought one these to replace a failing weather station, and this station is great. Super simple and easy to set up. I highly recommend this for your next weather station purchase.

  2. Brilliant weather station

Posted by John on 3rd Nov 2020

20 years ago I had another weather station from Scientific Sales, it finally wore out 15 months ago. Bought another through 'Uncle Ali', a complete waste of money and it lasted 13 months!! So I've come back to Scientific Sales and bought the Weather Ranger, boy oh boy am I pleased I did, a fabulous product with so many clear precise features. Virtually a plug in and play unit with a little tweeting on setting up the Wunderground WiFi. One phone call to you guys & I was all sorted, thanks. Really impressed with the product, delivery - overnight, and aftersales support

  3. Excellent All Round Weather Station

Posted by Ian on 2nd Jun 2020

An excellent all-round weather station for the price. Very easy to set up and configure including the wireless capability, which gets you connected to the Internet quickly.

I'd suggest you buy one of the mounting kits that goes with it, rather than running around my sheds trying to find poles that fit! It'll make the install faster.

  4. exactly what I wanted and so easy to set up

Posted by rachel simpson on 28th May 2020

The weather ranger is exactly what I wanted.
I had an Aercus WS2083 weather station previously which lasted for 9 years with out missing a beat so my replacement was never going to be anything else.
The weather ranger is a piece of cake to set up.
Great clear instructions for set up but make sure you follow the instructions for the southern hemisphere.
Connecting to Wifi and weather underground was much easier than it looked and installing the PWS monitor app. on my phone gives me instant access to my weather station data from anywhere.
There is a USB port on the console as well (not documented anywhere but Scientific sales told me about it pre-purchase) which means I can connect directly to my PC and use cumulus or easy weather IP as well.
Scientific sales NZ were fantastic with pre-purchase information to help me make my decision.
Delivery was very timely considering we were in the middle of covid-19 lock-down.
    The Weather ranger exceeded expectations.

  5. Aercus WeatherRanger

Posted by Steve Streefkerk on 7th Nov 2019

I had an Aercus WS3083 previously (my first weather station) which worked well but was starting to give problems so I opted to upgrade and chose the Aercus WeatherRanger. The station was dispatched quickly and I found it particularly easy to mount (far easier than the earlier station) and is a far more streamlined model.

Set up was good, and having looked through the Manual while researching the purchase knew there was a different set up process for the wind calibration in the Southern Hemisphere (and the Manual clearly points you in that direction). That said, I did have some issues getting on-line with weatherunderground and identified an issue with sunrise and sunset times / Daylight Saving. I received prompt and outstanding support from Scientific Sales that pointed me in the right place to connect my station to weatherunderground and I'm now online (and it was possibly me not quite picking up a step in the manual in the first place)

I did find that the sunrise and sunset times were an hour out and it seems to be linked to Daylight Saving - the solution has been to set time to GMT+13 (Samoa) and the time reads correct and sunrise and sunset are also now correct. Scientific Sales were investigating this further. I'll need to remember to manually change time zones at the end of Daylight Saving if there is no firmware fix.

I find this a great model, easy to install, clear display and good access via the web to my home Met data from anywhere.

I fully recommend and fully endorse the Aercus WeatherRanger and Scientific Sales.

  6. Aercus WeatherRanger - replacement installation

Posted by Andrew Webb on 15th Sep 2018

Received my new WeaterRanger in very good order; ordered Friday, received on Monday! :-)
Everything hooked up well and I'm 'on the air' with Wunderground.
Definitely a step-up from my earlier (storm damaged) weather station and so far very pleased with it.
    The reason for 'four stars':
It is no reflection on the quality as it meets full expectation; however there are even better stations available for which I really do not have a need (or can justify with her indoors).

  7. Well designed and great online support

Posted by Stu @ NZFE on 16th Mar 2018

This is my second PWS and a big step up from my previous model. While it pretty much worked straight from the box, it is worth taking the time to calibrate the rain and air pressure sensors to give accurate reports. One small problem setting up the daylight saving feature was quickly resolved by online help thanks to Laura at SS. A great product backed by fantastic customer service. I would recommend it and SS to anyone.

  8. Great first professional weather station.

Posted by Charles on 31st Oct 2017

I just love this weather station. I had tried unsuccessfully to set up another brand station that I received as a gift, only to find it was faulty (so it was returned) I was pleasantly surprised to find that the other unit had cost about the same as the model below this, even though it was really cheaply made and quirky to set up.

This station on the other hand was set up in a few minutes, the included mounting hardware had everything I needed, I just added a length of 22mm copper pipe to raise it up above the roof.

All outdoor sensors are contained in the single piece unit, all you have to do is insert the batteries, push on the anemometer (wind speed) and wind vane, line it up to North, switch on the indoor control panel and it sets itself up in a couple of minutes.

I did some research and decided to pay the extra to get this model with the LCD display panel, and I am really glad I did. the indoor sensor data is only available on the Weather Ranger display or on the iPad app. If you are using this with Android, you won't get the swish display of the iPad app or the Weather Ranger console.

You also automatically get a premium subscription with wunderground.com when you register your station on that service, as you are providing data to their service. Not only that, but you get an easy to remember station name that you can give your friends and neighbours to set as their wunderground location (if you want to). you can also easily see your station's data and history online through wunderground, along with other stations in your area.

I will be buying another of these, but the model without the display panel, to monitor another location that doesn't need indoor info.

  9. Very easy to setup.

Posted by Unknown on 24th Oct 2017

The instructions are easy to follow for setup. However there is another page that tells you to line it up differently in the Southern Hemisphere. The display is clear and has all the data you need.

  10. Good weather station but with a manual that could be better

Posted by Martin Manning on 4th Sep 2017

Would get 4.5 stars if that was possible, but I had to just guess my way through some of the installation process. For example, the pole that came with the station fitted snugly inside a standard sized Aluminum pole that I could buy locally. This made it much easier to mount it at an appropriate location than was covered in the manual, and I can now just lift the station and its pole out of the mounting pole for cleaning etc. The wireless link to the display console is straightforward and getting all the information into wunderground.com has worked well. But the manual could be revised to make things clearer. E.g: there are things in the "Setup" section that cover normal operation; then as someone in the southern hemisphere I'd say you could save space and make things clearer by merging a short version of Appendix I into the "Getting started" text; and the display console has something like a mini-USB socket that is not shown in the manual or explained anywhere. As someone who produces lots of graphs I'd never use the messy scale for numbers on the vertical axis of the graph in the upper left corner. E.g. standard graphics software would have 10,12,14,16 ... instead of 11.1, 12.7, 14.4, 16.1 ...
But that said, this weather station is working well and I'm very glad that I bought it.
