The Aercus Instruments WeatherSleuth is at the leading edge of console-free direct to internet weather stations.
The Aercus Instruments WeatherSleuth is an Internet Protocol (IP) based weather station that foregoes the need for a console and instead bursts the station’s data directly up to Wunderground.com the world's largest and most popular weather station network. The WeatherSleuth’s receiver module connects directly to your modem/router providing real-time internet monitoring from anywhere on any internet capable device (note: the receiver module plugs directly into your modem/router so your PC or Mac does not need to remain on).
The WeatherSleuth’s all-in-one external sensor suite tracks the full range of weather variables including UV Index and Light and its rapid 16 second update places it at the forefront of modern weather station technology. All major parameters are calibratable.
The WeatherSleuth is simple to install and is PC and Mac compatible. Installation kit included.

This is my 2nd weather station purchase, following the unreliability and eventual death of my Jaycar station. My primary reason for buying this one was because it didn't require a USB connection to a PC, instead it talks straight out to the Internet (Weather Underground by default). The main sensor mast uses wireless to talk to a small ethernet connected base station. My sensor mast is at the bottom of the garden on a pole, with the base station inside the garage - the distance is at least 25 meters, and it works flawlessly. The separate sensor which measures inside temperature, humidity and pressure is the other side of the house, and also communicates without problem.
Set-up was very easy, just plug in the base unit, connect via ethernet (no WiFi) and the lights on the front of the device tell you the status. Configuration is done via supplied software or once you know the device IP address, I found using the web interface easier. By default, it sends data to the Weather Underground service, great for beginners who can start seeing the reported sensor data pretty quickly.
I can't comment on the robustness of the outdoor unit yet, however it looks like it should last and the mounting hardware seems good quality, let's see how it copes with a Southern winter!

Was purchased as a Christmas Present and has been a complete hit. Set up took a while, but no longer than it took me to get the wireless speakers working, plus a bit of DIY time to get it mounted.
Signal from receiver to the station is excellent, I was really worried wether it would cope with our stone walls (2 foot thick), but by putting the receiver in the window it's picking up the signal fine.
Am enjoying keeping an eye on the weather using the mobile apps via my iPad, but also on the Wundergound website which you can access from any computer.

If you like the idea of a station that uploads information 24/7 without the need for your computer to be switched on and don't need a separate console, then consider this option which is a fraction of the price of some other models. You can view the current readings via Weather Underground website or via an app and Weather Underground maintain a database of all the weather data you upload. Set up fairly easy. Only had mine 6 months and so cannot comment on long time reliability. I have found Scientific Sales after sales service to be excellent.

This is my first WeatherStation. I found the documentation to be easily understood and the instrumentation to be easy to setup. I was up and running on WeatherUnderground in under 2 hours and I'm not handy!
Highly recommended!
